Wrapping up in several layers, pulling on welly socks and grabbing big wool jumpers the Jim Lawrence gang (Dave the photographer, Jim’s wife Sheena and I) spent a very chilly morning yesterday at Jim’s barn shooting the new look for Spring/Summer 2016 …

As we have to submit our pictures to magazines really early we generally work about 6 months ahead.  You can imagine it took a serious leap in faith to picture a balmy July day in the near freezing conditions of the Suffolk countryside yesterday!

updated max resizeThe dogs were just as chilly as us. Jim’s lovely Golden Retriever Max was keen as mustard to snuggle up to anyone that would keep him warm (even if it meant getting in the shot!), and Dutch the marketing Whippet was most unimpressed with the plan to shoot outdoors at this time of year. He spent most the day huddled in his basket watching us in high dudgeon…

The eagle eyed amoungst you will recognise the old barn as the original Jim Lawrence workshop premises. You will be pleased to hear that the old barns have been given a new lease of life, since we moved to our bigger site in Hadleigh, and are now a really useful photography space.

resized car parkWe had some lovely props to help us get in the mood to create a fresh Spring/Summer look: a simple combination of white boards, beautiful green and white hydrangeas and the most gorgeous Scandinavian settle sourced from a antiques shop in Yorkshire.

Then we added a few of our delicious soft grey and white handmade cushions and the scene was set for the main shot of the day – the picture of our Chain Mounted Canterbury Lantern

(Next time you are flicking through a magazine and spot this picture spare a thought for the very cold photography team that made it !)
